In 1975, a famous musician encountered the legendary actress Goldie Hawn at the peak of their careers.
The two met while flying first-class from New York to Los Angeles, and their chemistry was instant.
The musician, part of The Hudson Brothers, was already a well-known name in the music industry, having shared the stage with The Beach Boys, The Osmonds, and The Monkees. Besides his music endeavors, he also had roles in films and television, most notably in the cult classic Hysterical.
Reflecting on their initial meeting, the musician recalled the undeniable chemistry. “The attraction was immediate. I asked her out to dinner that very night, and that was the beginning,” he recounted. Their relationship quickly intensified, with their physical bond being a significant element.
“The [intimacy] was incredible. Even when other aspects of the relationship became difficult, the [intimacy] remained fantastic,” he mentioned, according to the Daily Mail. Despite the ups and downs, there were times when it felt like they were making headway.
The couple tied the knot in 1976 while Goldie was expecting their first child, a son. However, the birth was not without its challenges. Delivered at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, he faced a diagnosis of meconium aspiration, a serious condition where a newborn inhales amniotic fluid that has been tainted with meconium.

The newborn was kept apart from everyone for three days following his birth, which caused the couple a great deal of distress. “Goldie and I were beside ourselves,” the musician recalled. He went on to say: “She was really sick, and I’d move from her bedside to the neonatal intensive care unit. The doctors didn’t believe [son’s name] would survive. But [he] made it through, and from that point on, he became our cherished miracle.”
Three years later, in 1979, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter. The family of four shared many joyful years together, but their marriage unfortunately ended in 1981 when the musician found out that Goldie had been unfaithful. He desired a traditional marriage, which clashed with Goldie’s perspective on commitment.
“Goldie was having affairs, [and] she told me almost on our wedding night that she wanted an open marriage, that she couldn’t see herself being faithful to one man for the rest of her life,” he disclosed to the Daily Mail. “I wanted a traditional marriage, but Goldie couldn’t conform. Eventually, I decided to move out.”
After their separation, Goldie started a relationship with actor Kurt Russell in 1983. They had first crossed paths in 1968 while working on The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, but it was during their reunion on the set of Swing Shift that their romantic connection flourished. Their son, Wyatt Russell, was born in 1986, three years into their relationship.

Merging their families turned out to be quite a challenge. Goldie’s daughter shared: “For me, it was such a significant moment because it felt like, ‘My mom is deeply in love with this guy.’” She continued: “And I was meeting his son [Boston], which made me wonder, ‘Does this mean he’s my brother?’ It was overwhelming to process at such a young age.”
Goldie’s kids from her previous marriage faced feelings of abandonment following their parents’ divorce. Her son remembered how their biological father slowly withdrew from their lives. Reflecting on a controversial Father’s Day tribute to Kurt, he remarked: “It doesn’t really matter which of these men is my father. My dad stepped in when I was six and shaped me into the man I am today.”
Both siblings cherish memories of Kurt taking on the father figure role. Although their relationship with their biological father, Bill, remains difficult, they frequently express appreciation for Kurt’s commitment.
On the other hand, Bill has openly expressed feelings of betrayal, accusing Goldie of “poisoning” their children against him. Despite the ongoing tension, Kate and Oliver are concentrating on healing from their past and looking forward to a brighter future, according to Hello!.
By 2015, the troubled relationship with Bill became public when Oliver shared a controversial Father’s Day post on social media. He posted a nostalgic photo of himself, Kate, and Bill, with the caption: “Happy abandonment day… @katehudson.”
Bill, upset by the post, voiced his anger in an interview, stating: “Oliver could have called me, but he hasn’t. This was clearly planned; he selected the photo and shared it on Father’s Day knowing it would hurt the most.”
Bill went on to assert that if Oliver intended to exclude him from their lives, he had indeed accomplished that. The situation became even more strained when Kate took a page from Oliver’s book and shared her own tribute to Kurt, which heightened the tension.
Kate made an appearance on Howard Stern’s show, discussing how Kurt was the father who stood by her during tough and trying times. In reply, Bill remarked, as reported by the Daily Mail: “I would request that they refrain from using the Hudson name [because] they are no longer part of my life.”
He went on to say: “Oliver’s Instagram post was a calculated, cruel, and malicious attack; he is dead to me now, as is Kate. I am grieving their absence even though they are still alive.” Following this, Bill chose to clear out all childhood memorabilia related to Kate and Oliver from his home, according to the Daily Mail report.
Even with the rift between Bill and his older children, Kurt has taken on the role of a grandfather to Kate and Oliver’s kids.
While Bill still holds onto his bitterness, Kate and Oliver have moved forward, opting to concentrate on the family connections they’ve established with their stepfather, Kurt.
